Red light therapy, initially developed by NASA, employs photobiomodulation, a form of low-level laser therapy that delivers red and near-infrared light to specific areas of the body. When applied, this light penetrates the epidermal and dermal layers of the skin, stimulating mitochondrial activity and increasing ATP production, which is essential for powering our cells and body. Red light therapy effective for a variety of conditions such as pain management and fertility. 

This therapy is thought to potentially enhance mitochondrial energy production, especially in stressed cells, which is particularly relevant for egg health. Oocytes contain a significant number of mitochondria essential for oogenesis and subsequent embryonic development. Targeting the mitochondria can potentially impact egg retrieval outcomes. 

Research:

A study conducted in Japan examined the effects of photobiomodulation on women who had previously struggled with fertility. The findings indicated that a percentage of women who received this therapy had improved chances of achieving ongoing pregnancy and live births.

In 2016, research conducted in Denmark revealed a 66% pregnancy rate among individuals who ovulate and had previously faced infertility challenges, despite undergoing various interventions such as diet modifications, exercise, counseling, hormonal therapies, IVF, and ICSI. This success was observed following 1-3 months of PBM treatment.

Another Danish study documented a significant enhancement in sperm counts, ranging from 2-5 times, among individuals with previously low counts. After undergoing PBM treatment, sperm counts surged from 2 million/mL to surpassing 40 million/mL
